Travel can improve lives — in Lombok, when it’s done right.
In Lombok, tourism can be a real opportunity — but only when it is designed with local people, not above them. We chose a different path: clear, respectful, meaningful journeys — far from mass tourism.
Local. Direct. Responsible.
We work 100% directly with local partners — no marketplaces, no opaque subcontracting. Our structure relies on a collective of 11 independent driver-guides, all from Lombok, who know the island by heart.
Each driver-guide is also a cultural bridge. Along the road, they can introduce you to their village, their specialties, and everyday life — naturally, without staging, always with respect.
Eco-participation & local redistribution
Traveling with Macadamia means choosing eco-participative tourism — where value stays on the island. We pay directly the artisans, families, and small structures we work with, and we highlight know-how without turning it into folklore.
Along the way, you may discover real Lombok: women weaving cooperatives, traditional markets, coconut culture, and farming life. These encounters happen at the locals’ rhythm.
Harvests & traditional making — the real Lombok
Lombok is not only beaches. It is also an island of harvests, transformation and daily traditions. Sometimes, depending on timing, you can witness real production scenes — always with discretion and respect.
- A short visit, at the right time, with local agreement.
- Simple actions (sharing, donating essentials) — no spectacle.
- A human moment, respectful of the children and the staff.
Travel differently — without ever betraying what matters.
At Macadamia, we don’t simply talk about trips — we follow a process. A process built on the ground, co-designed with people from Lombok, guided by one simple conviction: you can live a privileged experience without damaging what makes it possible.
Our local teams — driver-guides and trusted partners — share a common framework: respectful dress, a dignified posture, and deep regard for Sasak culture and the island’s Muslim traditions. This respect is not a constraint — it is natural. It extends to all people, all beliefs, without distinction.
Our approach is eco-participative because it involves local actors at every step and keeps value on the island. It is eco-responsible because every decision matters: optimized routes, reduced waste, refusal of unnecessary plastic, and strict respect for sensitive places — mountains, rice fields, islands, trails, and marine life.
Lombok is a living island — not a backdrop. Respecting it means traveling the way locals live their land: with care, restraint, and pride.
That is what gives meaning to our work — and what makes these journeys truly valuable.
