PRIVATE EXPERIENCES

IN LOMBOK

Secret islands, snorkeling, waterfalls, culture,
southern beaches and private driver-guides to discover
Lombok differently.

Bali, Lombok… Which island should you choose in Indonesia?

Lombok is not a destination to tick off a list. It is an island to choose — and every traveler chooses a different version of it.

Some come for the northern waterfalls and Sasak villages. Others for the secret islands and snorkeling with turtles. Others still to climb Rinjani at sunrise, or simply to finally find a deserted beach where they can sit in silence.

At Macadamia, we do not sell fixed tours. We design journeys from these different worlds — according to what resonates with you. Each of our exploration territories: what it is, what it offers, and who it is made for.

Lombok is surrounded by a constellation of islands, most of which do not appear on any tourist map. While Gili Trawangan and Gili Meno are well known, the east and west of the island hide beautifully preserved gems — Gili Kedis, Gili Pasir, The Nest, Gili Nanggu — places you may share with no one else.

Each trip is operated by private boat, with your local captain, at your own pace. No group, no fixed schedule. You choose the island, you choose the time.

What we love

Who is it for?

Couples looking for intimacy, families with children who want to see turtles up close, snorkeling lovers, and anyone who wants to explore without being stuck in a group of 40 people.

— Waterfalls & Nature

Dense jungle, hidden waterfalls few Western travelers have seen, and silence as your only companion.

Northern Lombok is home to some of Indonesia’s most spectacular waterfalls. Sendang Gile and Tiu Kelep require a 20 to 40-minute walk through the tropical forest — and that is exactly why they remain preserved. Mass tourism stops where the trail begins.

Our local guides know the hours when no one is there, the natural pools where you can truly swim, and the angles where the light crosses the canopy in an unforgettable way. We do not take you to see a waterfall. We take you to experience one.

— Southern Beaches

White sand, powerful waves, and that rare feeling of having an entire beach to yourself.

Southern Lombok feels like Bali 25 years ago. The beaches of Kuta, Mawun, Selong Belanak and Tanjung Aan are among the most beautiful in the Indonesian archipelago — and most of them remain untouched by heavy tourist development. No rows of sun loungers, no vendors every three minutes.

Some beaches can only be reached by 4×4 or scooter along dirt tracks. That is what protects them. And that is what makes the arrival feel so unforgettable: a white-sand cove, turquoise water, and no one around.

What we love

Pour qui ?

Les surfers de tous niveaux, les amateurs de road-trip sauvage, les couples en quête de solitude choisie, et tous ceux qui veulent une plage sans avoir l’impression d’être dans un club.

— Culture & Sasak Villages

An ancient civilization, artisans still living through their craft, and hospitality that has not yet learned to be guarded.

Sasak culture is the soul of Lombok. Distinct from Bali and often overlooked by mainstream tourism, it offers curious travelers a glimpse into a world where pottery, weaving and gamelan music are still part of daily life — not a staged performance.

The villages of Banyumulek, Sukarara and Sade have welcomed visitors for generations, but there is a difference between passing through in a group of 30 for 20 minutes and sitting with a weaver to understand what she does. That second experience is the one we organize, with local partners who know how to open the right doors.

What we love

Who is it for?

Curious and humanist travelers, those who travel slowly, and those who want to understand a country rather than simply photograph it.

— Mountain & Rinjani

One of Southeast Asia’s most spectacular treks. An active volcano, a crater lake at 2,000 meters, and a sunrise you never forget.

Mount Rinjani rises to 3,726 meters. Its crater shelters an emerald lake and natural hot springs. On a clear day, the summit offers views over Bali, Sumbawa and a large part of the archipelago. It is one of those rare places in the world where you truly feel above everything.

Several routes are possible depending on your level and availability: two days to reach the lake, three days to aim for the summit. In every case, Macadamia selects certified guides and porters, negotiates the least crowded camp locations, and makes sure your equipment matches the reality of the terrain.

What we love

Pour qui ?

Les voyageurs curieux et humanistes, ceux qui voyagent lentement, ceux qui veulent comprendre un pays plutôt que simplement le photographier.

— Private Driver

Your own driver, your own rhythm — the island on your terms, with no compromise.

In Lombok, transport is not a small detail. Distances are significant, roads in the south and center can be difficult for an untrained traveler, and shared taxis or rental scooters do not really allow you to reach the places where the most interesting things happen.

Our private driver service is something different. It is a professional who knows every track, every shortcut and every warung worth stopping at. It is a comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle, available whenever you need it, dropping you off and waiting for you — without counting every hour or negotiating at every stop. Our drivers proudly wear the traditional Sasak outfit — a detail that says a lot about what we want to share: the pride of a culture, not a standardized service. It is also, often, the most honest conversation you will have on the island.

What we love

Who is it for?
All Macadamia travelers — private driver service is included in every journey. It is also an ideal option for those who want to design their own custom day, with departure from Bali or directly from their hotel.
